Happy...First of July?
You know you're abroad when the 4th of July is celebrated on the 1st of July, because it's the weekend. We were invited by one of Russ's colleagues to a 4th of July /3rd of July (Canada Day) party at the Yokohama Country and Atheletic Club.
Having been here for three months, it was a shock to walk into the event and see (#1) not only linedancers but also (#2) a full-fledged Elvis impersonator. Food served included corn on the cob, hamburgers, watermelon, potato salad, and hot dogs. There were tug-of-war contests, face painting, a bouncy castle, and baseball.
However, we quickly remembered we were back in Japan, when a group of women attended in their kimonos (picture #2).
After two other bands (country western and classic rock), there was a small fireworks show. Happy 4th to everyone back in the U.S.!
